The Imagine Foundation welcomes Giuseppe Mistretta, who from today assumes the role of President. He succeeds Fabio Melloni, founding member and longtime Board of Directors member, a key figure in Italian cooperation and the creator of the Cinema Arena project.

“I thank the Imagine Foundation for the trust placed in me,” says Mistretta. “With my appointment as President, we have an exciting journey ahead of us, in the name of upholding the fundamental rights of individuals, groups, and communities, even in the most remote and vulnerable areas of the world.”

A diplomat with over twenty years of experience in Africa, Mistretta has served as Italy’s Ambassador to Angola and Ethiopia, and has also worked in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the United States, Libya, and the United Kingdom. In recent years, he has led the Sub-Saharan Africa department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He is the author of several books about the African continent and has long contributed to newspapers and magazines such as La Repubblica, Il Corriere della Sera, and Capital.

With his arrival, the Imagine Foundation enters a new phase, focusing on the rights and communities most at risk around the world, continuing the work carried out so far.

Fondazione Imagine dà il benvenuto a Giuseppe Mistretta, che da oggi assume il ruolo di presidente. Succede a Fabio Melloni, socio fondatore e per anni membro del Consiglio di Amministrazione, figura chiave della cooperazione italiana e ideatore del progetto Cinema Arena. 

“Ringrazio la Fondazione Imagine per la fiducia accordatami - dice Mistretta -. Con la mia nomina a Presidente. Ci aspetta un bel percorso insieme, nel nome dell’affermazione dei diritti fondamentali delle persone, dei gruppi e delle comunità, anche nelle aree più remote e vulnerabili del mondo”.

Diplomatico con oltre vent’anni vissuti in Africa, Mistretta è stato Ambasciatore d’Italia in Angola e in Etiopia, e ha lavorato anche in Repubblica Democratica del Congo, Stati Uniti, Libia e Gran Bretagna. Negli ultimi anni ha guidato l’area Africa Sub-Sahariana del Ministero degli Esteri. È autore di diversi libri dedicati al continente africano e collabora da tempo con quotidiani e riviste come La Repubblica, Il Corriere della Sera e Capital.

Con il suo arrivo, la Fondazione Imagine apre una nuova fase, con lo sguardo rivolto ai diritti e alle comunità più fragili del mondo, nel solco del lavoro portato avanti finora.
