Guinea Conakry – Journalist Training with ECES (March–July 2025)

Between March and July 2025, we operated in Guinea Conakry during a crucial period of political transition. The Foundation, in collaboration with ECES – the École de Communication et d’Éducation aux Médias, a local institution that promotes journalist training and professional development, launched a training program for local journalists in anticipation of the constitutional referendum scheduled for September 21, with the aim of supporting the development of the democratic process in the country.

The project focused on providing media professionals with tools to read, analyze, and verify data, counter misinformation, and ensure independent journalism. This approach contributes to building a more inclusive future, respectful of human rights and based on the values of solidarity and participation.

To implement the program, we organized on-the-ground training sessions, moving from the capital, Conakry, to the Kankan province, near the border with Mali. There, we met with our students, sharing practical methods for accurately reporting electoral results, interpreting data, and providing reliable information, even under the pressures and challenges associated with the recent political transition.

The mission was essential: intervening in a country that, after the coup that overthrew President Condé, was facing a delicate step toward the constitutional referendum. The training of local journalists represents a concrete contribution to free and responsible journalism, capable of protecting minorities, promoting inclusion, and supporting local development, human rights, and civic participation.
