Mali – Cinema and Journalist Training on the Risks of Migration (2026)
At the beginning of 2026, if the political situation allows, the Foundation will travel to Mali to implement a new project focused on the risks of irregular migration. The initiative will be carried out in collaboration with ActionAid and Plan Italia, and financed by the Relint call of the Italian Ministry of the Interior.
The project will use cinema, audiovisual materials, and journalist training sessions as the main tools to raise community awareness and strengthen the skills of local media. Its goal will be to provide media professionals with the tools to understand and responsibly report migration phenomena, highlighting the risks for those involved and promoting the protection of human rights.
The mission, initially scheduled for November 2025, was postponed due to the severe political instability in the country. The capital, Bamako, has been under siege by GSIM – the Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims, posing high security risks for citizens and foreign operators. Despite these challenges, the Foundation plans to resume field activities in February 2026, ensuring all necessary safety measures for staff and participants.
Through this project, the Foundation, together with local and international partners, aims to create training and information spaces that promote responsible and accurate journalism attentive to the rights of migrants, contributing to community awareness about the risks of irregular migration and prevention strategies.
